Blessings to you in the name of the risen Christ. We aren't done with Easter yet! Christ is definitely risen.
We grieve this week on the death of Rev. Janine Denomme, recently ordained Roman Catholic Woman Priest and friend of Ebenezer. She was an amazing woman of God, who inspired us so!
Many of you know Janine from congregational forums, GLOCY trainings, the Roman Catholic WomenPriest ordination, or the Center on Halsted. She passed away on Monday, May 17th just after 5am. See information on the left bottom of this e-letter for funeral details.
A Pentecost Message
Every week, with the E-news, we'll give you a link to a different devotional or resource. This week, Pastor Sherman Hicks reflects on Pentecost and multicultural ministries: "A Pentecost Message" from Rev. Sherman Hicks
Several theologians/bloggers were asked to describe "How The Holy Spirit Moves Today...in 100 words or less." Every single one is a beautiful reflection on Pentecost.

God in the Cleaning Cloth - A Spiritual Kitchen Clean-Up at Ebenezer on Saturday, April 24, beginning at 9am
God in the Cleaning Cloth - A Spiritual Kitchen Clean-Up Retreat at Ebenezer on
Saturday, April 24, 9a.m. - 1:30p.m.
Come to this spirituality retreat and listen to the heartbeat of God as you help spring-cleaning the Ebenezer kitchen. In many Christian traditions, such as in Celtic spirituality or Benedictine monastic life, daily activities are experienced as gateways for a deeper connection with God.
Cleaning the Ebenezer kitchen offers many opportunities to experiment and engage in spiritual practices including mediation, prayer, mindfulness, and sharing. A grimy oven, dusty corners, untouched dishes, and a humid refrigerator become holy places as we engage with them a cleaning cloth in hand and God in our heart. And as fresh bread will bake in the clean oven to provide us with lunch!
You are cordially invited to participate and contribute to this holistic ministry experience that will not only make our kitchen shine with the freshness of spring, but will also awaken and nourish our spirits into the season of blossoming apple trees.
Please, mark your calendar! Further details will be provided as we near this event. Please note that the retreat may end earlier, if the cleaning work is completed earlier. The retreat will not last longer than 1:30, independent of whether all work is accomplished.
For questions, please, contact Anja N. Stuckenberger (MIC intern); astuckenberger@lstc.edu

CHICAGO HEARING: "Does US Policy on Israel and Palestine Uphold Our Values?" This Chicago Hearing is modeled after a Congressional hearing and will be webcast live from a link on the home page. The Chicago Hearing will bring together witnesses to tell seldom-heard stories from Israel-Palestine that raise critical questions about the effects of U.S. policies in the region. Does Israel's explanation of security legitimize its violations of international law? Does the U.S. government condone Israeli policies and practices that would not be tolerated if replicated in America by the U.S. government?
The Hearing highlights voices of those on the other end of the pipeline of U.S. aid to Israel. Israeli, Palestinian and American witnesses will testify to lives lost, freedoms denied and property destroyed by Israeli policies buttressed by U.S. aid and support. The witnesses will testify to the collateral effects of U.S. policies toward Israel: military and financial aid that totaled over $3 billion in 2009 as well as unconditional diplomatic support for Israel in the United Nations. Go to Chicago Hearing website to read more.
You must register (registration is free, click on the red words "seating limited - registration required" on the main page) in order to attend, but feel free to watch the webcast even if you cannot attend in person.

The retreat will focus on biblical dreams, featuring the powerful dreams of biblical figures and how to attend to our own dreams as a spiritual guide. Participants are asked to start recording their dreams in advance of the retreat. A $115 fee includes lodging at Freedom Tree Village and six meals, in addition to the program. For information, please contact Audrey at 815-732-2220 (registrations@lomc.org).

Draft ELCA Social Statement on Genetics now available for comment
Social Statement to be considered by the 2011 CWA
The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is preparing a social statement on genetics to be considered by the 2011 Churchwide Assembly. The 2005 Churchwide Assembly mandated the development of this statement.
This document is the draft of that social statement and will be revised following discussion throughout this church. There are several ways to participate in that process:
+Study, discuss, comment: You are invited to study, discuss and comment on this draft and thereby contribute to the development of the proposed social statement for 2011.
+Participate in a hearing: You are also invited to attend hearings on this draft to be held in various synods.
+The deadline for submitting comments is October 15, 2010. Click here to respond online. Information on hearings and on ordering additional copies may be found at the back of the booklet.
