Children and Youth

Children are an important part of who we are as a congregation. Children of all ages are always welcome in our liturgies. A reading and “cry” area is adjacent to the sanctuary where you can still fully participate, should the need arise. In addition, a nursery staffed by a professional and a volunteer is available during the  10:00 AM liturgy and Community Hour.

Sunday School for Children is an All kids curriculum model for kids ages 4-12. Sunday school meets September through May at 9:45 a.m. For current information about online Sunday School, click here.

Youth Group is open to students in 6th through 10th grade.

Edgewater Congregations Together Youth Group is a joint youth ministry for youth in grades 6th-12th from the neighborhood and from Ebenezer, Immanuel, and Unity Lutheran Churches in Edgewater.  They gather the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month throughout the school year at 6:15pm for dinner and from 7:00-8:30pm for faith discussions, games, and worship.

Throughout the year, they also participate in service projects and justice work, gather for social events, and serve as worship leaders in an entirely youth-led Ascension Day worship service.  They also attend the annual ELCA Metro-Chicago Synod sponsored events: the fall all-night lock-in at Enchanted Castle and the winter retreat at Lutherdale Bible Camp.  Every few years, the E.C.T. youth group participates in a mission/service and learning trip with other Edgewater youth groups, and every three years the high school youth attend the ELCA Youth Gathering.

In addition, 7th and 8th graders are invited to prepare for Confirmation with twice-monthly faith formation.
