New Neighbor Needs

We have a new family who arrived in the US after a six-year ordeal from Eritrea and the refugee camps of Ethiopia. The parents and their four children ages 10, 16, 20 and 23 live in a barely furnished apartment. They don’t speak English and have no transportation. Their refugee agency offers minimal support. Our friends, Yonas and Sinite, literally found the father looking for help on Devon Avenue and Yonas took it from there. This week, the family enjoyed 'shopping' for clothes and household goods in the Ebenezer Welcome Rooms.

These are their immediate needs:  A twin bed, a queen bed, dressers, area rugs, used bicycles, laundry carts, Aldi gift cards and monetary donations. Once they receive food stamps they will need all of the things that food stamps don't buy like soaps and detergents, personal care items, paper goods and cleaning supplies.

We hope to find a volunteer to help the older daughters navigate ESL classes and registration in City Colleges. We are thankful to Jackie and Dave Woods for maintaining the Welcome Room and to Yonas and Sinite who were open to a father in need and knew what to do. If you can help, please contact Norm Dynneson (normdynneson64(at)gmail.com) or Jackie Wood (jacquelinemwood(at)hotmail.com)
